Ophthalmology
Universal Hospital is committed to providing the highest quality of “Eye Care”. We aim to combine the latest technology with professional expertise, compassion, and dignity to deliver the best results. The Ophthalmology department at universal Hospital, Pune is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art eye care ranging from routine eye examinations to complex surgical procedures. The department also performs refractions, prescribes corrective lenses and performs other tests to help maintain good vision.
Many sight-threatening diseases if detected early can be cured or treated to prevent or slow the progression of serious vision loss. The most important step in preventing visual loss is by routine examination of eyes by a qualified eye care professional. Children should receive their first comprehensive eye examination before the age of four unless problems warrant an earlier examination. Immediate care is required if there is visual change, pain, flashes of light, new floaters, injury or tearing, etc.
Patients with diabetes are at greater risk for several eye disorders including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and cataract, and should have an eye examination every year or as per their doctor’s advice. Asians are more at risk of glaucoma and should have a regular check-up after 40 years of age especially with a positive family history of glaucoma.
We treat a wide range of eye conditions including refractive errors (like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism), cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, conjunctivitis, dry eye syndrome, and various infections or injuries. The department also handles emergency eye cases and pediatric eye conditions such as squint, lazy eye, and congenital cataracts.
Our facility is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools such as slit-lamp examination, optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus imaging, visual field testing, and tonometry for accurate diagnosis. We also offer microsurgeries and laser treatments, including cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, LASIK and other refractive procedures, and retinal laser therapies.
In addition to treatment, we emphasize the importance of preventive eye care, especially for patients with diabetes, the elderly, and children. Regular eye check-ups, especially for those with existing medical conditions, are key to preserving healthy vision. Our specialists work closely with other departments when systemic diseases impact eye health, ensuring holistic care.
With a commitment to precision, patient comfort, and clinical excellence, our Ophthalmology Department is dedicated to protecting and enhancing your vision. Whether you need a simple eye exam, corrective surgery, or advanced treatment for a chronic eye condition, we’re here to provide expert care every step of the way.
